No internet, no electricity, ... no problem.

Radio communications do not require the internet and need very little power.
Radio communications are the mainstay for emergency communications.
Radio communications are used widely by people who hunt and fish. These people use radio communications to stay in touch with their family and friends.
Radio communications are a great way to combine the technical aspects of a fascinating hobby with the social aspects of learning together in a group.
There are radio clubs throughout Canada and throughout the World.
Radio communications are often combined with other pastimes such as mountain climbing, hiking and park visits.
Radio communications provide an outlet for people interested in improving their own skills through friendly competition.

But to do all of this, you need a license from the Canadian government. Transmitting on the air is a privilege rather than a right. Fortunately there is an abundance of resources to help you get your license.

We offer courses leading to the basic certification and to the advanced certification. The courses consists of 10 classes; one class per week. We use the ZOOM platform for these two-hour classes. So you don’t need to travel and can stay in the comfort of your own home learning about amateur radio.

After the course is finished, we schedule you for a certification exam. For the basic certification, you need to answer correctly at least 70 out of 100 multiple choice questions. For the advanced certification, it’s answering correctly at least 35 questions out of the 50. These questions for the basic certification are drawn from a bank of 1000 questions. The bank of questions for the advanced certification contains 500 questions. By the way, to help you prepare, you have access to all the questions with the correct answers.

The certificate is for life. It is renewed automatically. There are no minimum of maximum age requirements to obtain a radio amateur certificate.

We also have books for both the basic and the advanced certifications. These books are closely followed during the presentation of the courses. There is a basic course and an advanced course given in French with its companion books written entirely in French. Likewise, there is a basic course and an advanced course given in English with its companion books written entirely in English.

There is no cost for the amateur radio certificate itself. However, the charge for each 10-week course is 100$ which includes the certification exam. You must have passed the basic certification to be eligible for the advanced certificate.

I hope you join us in the amateur radio hobby. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly either by e-mail or by calling me at home.
